I like these old cars. They are awesome to drive and just look so cute. I’ve edited the photo in Photoshop to give it some atmosphere and make it stand out from the surroundings.

I captured the image with the Canon 5D mark II and the universal zoom the Canon 24-105mm f/4 lens.
Hope you like it – is it your car you should drop me a not for a high resolution for the desktop or maybe even a small print!

This evening the sun were shining through the dark clouds perfect for saturated colours and great details. I love when you can find these small gaps in time where the old is still standing with it’s rustic and charming atmosphere.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted image but moving and getting us installed here in Copenhagen have taken a big effort but we are getting everything in order and the camera is clicking again!

I hope you like it as I will be posting more of these boats.

Metro Berlin is an image from one of my days in Berlin. I remember I was out testing the Canon 50mm f/1.8 taking images of Berlin for Foto Factory.

I waited at this cross close to Alexander Platz for the right moment to get a shot of the yellow metro as it was passing by. I love the shallow depth of field of the 50mm lens and the sharpness. I’m amazed what a good lens you can get for a few euro!

Compared to a zoom lens you will have to walk a bit more to get the right composition as you cannot zoom on the lens. On the other hand you can set the aperture to 1.8 to minimise depth of field and really isolate your subject.

The lens is the cheapest in my camera bag and one of the sharpest and one of the most used!

Here in Copenhagen we should be able to get the showroom done, mostly, next week. We are behind with the decoration side but customers come first. Im just putting last hand on a project right now making sure every detail are right and up to customers need.

No I’m back to work while you can enjoy the weekend.

With the rumoured takeover of Tumblr by Yahoo many might speculate about the future of Tumbler. Take it in your own hands and import your Tumblr blog into a WordPress blog.

I was just reading that here that Yahoo will buy Tumblr by the sum of $1.1bn. Tumblr was founded in 2007 and today, there are about 110m blogs on the site.

Do you think that sucks and dont want your Tumblr blog to be handled by Yahoo you can easily just move all you stuff to WordPress. First of all you need to find a web host for your WordPress installation then install the Tumbler Importer plugin. On wordpress.com you will find an easy 3-step guide to get you all the way.

Then you will want to look at Pagelines Framework for WordPress ($97) and the “Looks Like Tumblr” section ($19.99) in Pagelines Store. With a quick 2 minute setup, Looks Like Tumblr is the quickest and easiest way to completely transform your blogging experience.

Im not sure if you are willing to pay for Pagelines but doing so will enable an easy way to have a Tumblr like independent blog!

Pagelines and Photography is an article on how to turn Wordpress into a publishing platform for photographers to showcase their photography on WordPress.

The post WordPress, Pagelines and Photography appeared first on Images by Bay.

For many photographers WordPress isn’t the preferred platform for publishing their work. I think more photographers and artists could benefit from using WordPress to showcase their work. Let me explain why!

My background for using WordPress goes way back in 2005 when it was a very basic system. I still remember when I turned my first html site into a fully CMS (Content Management System) setup. The reason is that todays websites contain so much content that you simply need a smart system to keep it all organised.

WordPress is still my favourite because it’s simple to setup and customise to your need – also it’s platform independent because work is done online so if you are on Mac, Linux or Windows doesn’t matter – the user interface is the same.

WordPress

Anyhow, why will I suggest photographers and artists to use WordPress? Well simply because most of you will be able to set it all up by yourself. Maybe you will need help on the way, but hey have a look at the support page!

How to get started. First you will need a place to install WordPress. At wordpress.com you can get a hosted site setup in minutes and start posting you images. Well It’s good for a beginning but if you are really serious about the website I really think it’s a good idea to have a self-hosted site you will need a web host who meets the minimum requirements and a little time.

All of my sites are on Mediatemple which I’ve been using for years. Well this is not about hosting and I will not try to convince you that Mediatemple is the best but I’m just saying I prefer them! Many hosts today have a one-click-wordpress-install feature so It really is simple to get going – the most difficult part is to sign up for a host you trust!

Then you need a few minutes to install WordPress following these instructions: Famous 5-Minute Install unless of cause you web hosts have a 1-click install feature as mentioned above.

With a basic WordPress installation you are ready to publish your images, photos or tips and tricks about photography. With the Jetpack plugin you can make some spectacular galleries in you posts.

But the plugin also have a lot of other neat features like stats! But first of you might want to look at the Tiled Galleries and Carousel. When activated you will want to go into WordPress > Settings > Media and check the box for “Display all your gallery pictures in a cool mosaic.”

Another great plugin for photographers using WordPress is the NextGEN Galleries maintained by Photocrati. NextGEN Galleries offers great functionality for organising and uploading images from your computer to your website.

Pagelines and Photography

To move on with you WordPress installation I suggest you have a look at Pagelines Framework or other theme frameworks. Have a look at my Pagelines Review.

There are a few themes included with WordPress and if you can use them for all your needs thats great just go ahead and save the cost for a theme framework. A theme framework like Pagelines Framework will cost you and it might not be clear what you actually get before you have opted in. I enjoy the theme support and the talented support staff which quickly and qualified always seem to be able to solve my problems. I sometimes even ask what I afterwards consider a stupid question and they always get me in the right direction!

With Pagelines you actually get access to a large shop with different themes, sections, and plugins you can install and used with the framework. It’s great because they are made specifically for Pagelines and are well supported – some are even free!

A great feature built into the Pagelines framework is the ability to use graphics or photographs as a background for your site. Adding a little plugin you can even more than one image so you can have a large slideshow on the back of your site!

Pagelines plugin and sections for photographers

They have always amazed me. The bumblebees! As a kid i was amazed that these big insects could even fly and there buzzing sound in the flowers all summer.

Here in the early summer the bumblebees are very busy flying around finding fook and a place to build a nest for the summer. It’s some of the first insects to really show in early summer/spring the heavy queens bussing slowly along the patio in search for a new place to stay.

Soon the bumblebees will be in the plowers in the tree just outside our kitchen window to collect pollen and nectar from for the nest. The bumblebees have an interesting life cycle which you can read bout on wikipedia of cause!

I captured the photo with the with the 180mm f/3.5 Macro lens using only natural light I love the warm background and the fined details in the flower and bee.

I hope you like it.

I really love these small buzzing creatures and have love sneaking around with the 180mm f/3.5 Macro lens to capture the details. The hover fly images was captured in Scotland last year on one of the first summer days.

The Hover fly photo was captured with the Canon 5D mark II and the Canon 180mm f/3.5 Macro lens. I hope it will be a nice summer for all of you and I will have time to get out of the office and enjoy the buzzing life. Also have a look at this detailed illustration if you like hover flies.

Miniature tracks from a small welsh train on Llandudno Pier near the national park Great Orme. The image was captured on a dull evening so I’ve added a bit of atmosphere to it!

We came to Llandudno in the early evening and went along the sea towards the pier getting some atmospheric images in the low light and light rain. I went with the trusty 50mm lens to get a light photo setup and be able to put it all in my pocket should the rain be more heavy. I love the combination of the light lens, sharp results and a narrow depth of field. It’s the perfect lens to carry around on your travels!

Well what next! We still wait for the showroom/gallery to get all done here in Copenhagen and have time to think about where photography should take me next. One obvious option is to focus on Copenhagen and the surroundings. It’s a lovely city and have lost of modern culture and historic buildings – the place we have setup our business is a great example of what Copenhagen have to offer if you get of the main track and seek something authentic.

But Denmark have also some great nature – beside the coastal areas we have plenty of nice forest and heathers. Nice streams and rivers and some lovely lakes! I will get deeper into Denmark that’s sure.

Whats your favourite places to photograph?

Enjoy the image – share it and have a great day!

Finally we have internet at our workplace in Denmark – it took ages to figure out cables would’t do and we are not setup with a mobile broadband from Telia – it works great less wires and speed is (32/12 Mbps).

It is a relieve to have internet without using the iPhone as hotspot. Also mail have arrived and so the post man seem to be able to find us now

Now we just need to empty a few boxes and we can creating the showroom/gallery/office a few weeks of work I imagine. I’ve not had time to take many images lately so I will post this miniature waterfall from our stay in UK. The image is from a place in Scotland near Fort Willians and Ben Nevis.

I’ve desaturated the image and and a vignette blur to give the waterfall a miniature look. This was a beautiful place but filled with millions of midges that wanted to share the moment with me so I waited for the long exposure while the midges bite all over my head and hands – torture!

I hope you like it and I will hopefully get to post some more images in the near future… Spring is near and so is easter with some nice relaxing days ahead.

Enjoy

Hidden in the middle of the Lake District National Park the lake Buttermere is a true beauty. The lake is right next to the town Buttermere with many beautiful walks.

I like to take the easy walk circling the Buttermere lake – it’s pretty easy and let you explore the shore of the lake with you camera. The trail have some very nice woodland with larch trees but also some magnificent views of the surrounding mountains.

Beside the area around Wast Water and Scafell Pike this is really one of my favourites. You are also able to find a some good spots for wild camping especially if you arrive out of season, which I really recommend. The early spring is great and so are the late autumn. At spring time the trees are impressively green contrasting the red and yellow in fall.

I love this image because if give a sense of quietness and really show how green this place can be. The photograph was captured with the Canon 5D Mark II and the 24-105mm f/4L handheld on a rainy day in April.

Enjoy

The area around Scafell Pike is one of my favourites in the Lake District National Park. Scafell Pike is the highest mountain in England at 978 metres so it offers magnificent views.

Less known is the surrounding mountains which offers beautiful walks and the same magnificent views of the surrounding landscape with big mountains and the large lake, Wast Water.

I simply love the Lake District NT and we have been camping in our camper van all over the park. Coming out of season or taking the smaller roads is the trick – there is so much space here and you can have a lot of space for your self. The area around Buttermere and Wast Water are favourites. At Buttermere there is the lovely Dalegarth Guest House and Campsite which is located in a glade on the shore of Buttermere right in the heart of the lakes.

Being in these landscapes really give you the opportunity to appreciated the landscape and where ever you go big mountains, streams and lakes will have you go crazy with you camera. So no wonder why this is hot spot for photographers – everyone have to go here especially in autumn but in my opinion every time of the year is good!

I’ve met a few of the amazing UK photographers here! Ross Brown – a regular contributor to the John Muir Trust Wild Nature Diary and Calendar. His patience and skill with the traditional large format film camera is impressive.

The above image is captured opposite Scafell Pike showing one of many trail in the area. I’ve edited the image in Photoshop and Lightroom. I used the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L lens at 200mm who said tele lenses is not good for landscape images?

Ben Nevis (Beinn Nibheis) is the highest mountain in the British Isles. Each year the mountain attracts around 100,000 ascents a year.

Ben Nevis is standing at 1,344 metres above sea level and is located close to the town of Fort William in the Scottish Highlands.

The image is captured late on a nice view point on one of the adjacent mountains. The short walk to the view point was hard and uphill and the forest were full of midges that attacked if we took a short break. Taking the images was a nightmare with millions of midges. I would have them in my ears, eyes and everywhere else they could get to me. It’s so hard to focus when you are under this kind of stress but we managed and after some time enjoying the views we rushed downhill to protection in the car.

The image was captured late in the evening with the Canon 5D Mark II and the 24-105mm f/4L zoom lens solid on the Gitzo tripod.

I hope you like the image – it was a pain getting it in the camera :)
